6 Foundation Pillars for Changes
How to apply what you learn and incorporate it into your life
Here, I share my story that started in 2020, and why I started teaching how to navigate through change and truly live the life you wish for.
Almost everyone's life was impacted by the waves of Covid in 2020, including mine. I was forced to close our beloved studio in March, which was an extremely painful decision to make. I was very sad, but still waited patiently for a year in St. Louis, but as winter came and the situation worsened, I decided to return to Taiwan to be with my family. However, the journey of goiing home was another frustrating experience. After my flights got canceled four times, I finally managed to land in Taipei on my fifth attempt and I was immediately sent to a small room where I was quarantined for 21 days.
I couldn't describe how I felt during that period because nothing made any sense. Suddenly, I didn't have a yoga studio anymore, I have about $6,000 in flight credits due to the airline canceling their flights. Additionly, I have to pay $2,500 to lock myself in a room because I was potentially dangerous. (Taiwan has a very strict rules). It felt like a nightmare that I couldn’t wake up. I remember asking to myself, hopefully : “Where can I go from here? And when the world opens up again, how do I want to live?" A question begins with no signs or answers.

Writing things down was very helpful during that time. During those 21 days of quarantine in my room, all I did was yoga, journaling, meditation, and trying to stay hopeful. One day, a picture showed on my screen. It looked like a Greek Temple and was surreally beautiful in Sicily. I told myself, I will be there. I immediately notice how I say it to myself, not I wish or want to be there, but I will be there.
Four and half years later, in summer, 2024, I visited the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, Sicily. As I stood in front of the temple, I felt very emotional. I couldn't believe I made my own dream come true. The Temple stands elegantly at the top of the hill overlooking the valley since the 5th century. It is named after Concordia, the Roman goddess of harmony (By the way, I live next to Concorida Seminary in St.Louis). What does it take to build a temple like this stand for such a long time? Still in my thoughts, I felt guided to look at the temple more closely. "Look at the foundation, look at those pillars." I walked around the temple slowly, observing the foundation and admiring each individual pillar closely. More and more thoughts kept flowing in like pure spring, and before I knew it, I found myself writing things down on anything I could get my hand on.
All the feeling and memories return to me for the rest of my time in Italy. Whenever I could find a quiet moment, I wrote down what I have experienced from the hardest moment, how I focus on the vision I wish to live in my meditation, how I shift my energy and focus, but most importantly, how I have carried myself through the 4.5-year journey. After stay in Taiwan for 1.5 years, I say goodbye to my family again, and return to United States in 2022. I rebuild our 2nd studio, led retreats in Tuscany in Italy, and worked with many people through the difficult time of changes across different time zones.
So many people are navigating through heavy waters of changes, as well as trying to manage anxiety and fear triggered by the unknown. I grew up with many challenges and setbacks from childhood into adulthood, and need to learn how to overcome various difficulties by adapting to a new culture from East to West. Those difficult experiences helped me build insightful thinking and learn to become more skillful, for example, not just learn a new language, but how to communicate, and understand each person’s need, and understand them. Life is a long journey, instilling a sense of trust in ourselves is incredibly important and fundamental, but the faith does not come from outside, but from within.
All the results in your life are not based on what you know, but on what you accomplished and manifested. How you apply what you learn and incorporate it into your life is the most important.
