About Yoga in DeMun

Yoga is a gift that was passed down first through writing, then by word of mouth. It has crossed time and culture, weaving together humanity, body, mind and life and it is still alive and relevant for those of us living in modern times who are searching for something deeper.

The word 'Yoga' is derived from the Sanskrit root 'Yuj', meaning 'to join' or 'to yoke' or 'to unite' - It is a practice of self union. The union of external and inner source.

Most yoga practice focuses on the combination of physical, breath-based, and techniques to build physical strength and awareness, but the whole picture is, you can zoom out and see yoga as an ancient tree that has lived and is alive for more than 5,000 years, and has eight limbs. The Eight Limbs of Yoga, or Ashtanga Yoga, are a comprehensive framework for living a purposeful, ethical, and meditative life, defined by Sage Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. These eight elements are known as limbs. It provides an inner path to self-realization, aiming to calm the mind's fluctuations. It focuses on self-inquiry and inner peace. The purpose of physical practice is to pave the way for inner clarity, which is a great practice for us in the modern world that carries stress in the body and the mind, and lacks inner space for inner reflection. The framework of Yoga — The Eight Limbs of Life

The Eight Limbs of Life- The Practice of Yoga

Yamas (Moral Precepts): Non-violence, Truthfulness, Non-Stealing, Continence, Non-possessiveness

Niyamas (Personal Observances): Purity, Contentment, Austerity, Spiritual Studies, Devotion

Asana (Postures), Pranayama (Control of Life Force), Pratyahara (Withdrawal of the Senses),

Dharana (Concentration), Dhyana (Meditation), Samadhi (Absorption)

As you can see, yoga has a long history and it is a system. If we only practice the physical aspect, we may lose the depth of its wholeness. So we skillfully weave a practice that makes it practical and applicable in your life. Therefore, we don't only provide a class, but hopefully give you an experience, where we work with individuals and small groups in an ongoing process to help them gain clarity first and then apply what they learn directly in their life, and see challenges and difficulty are our practices and best teachers.

Yoga has been a path for me for nearly 20 years, and it is my greatest joy to share what I learned, practice and overcome with you.

My Story

Just like many of you, it all started from feeling a need to take care of myself.

That need led me to my first yoga class when I first moved from Taiwan to St. Louis, United States in 2007. I never knew that was just the beginning of an unfolding — from taking care of my body, to taking care of my emotions, to slowly finding my own clarity, my path, and then my purpose. A journey that has stretched from my 20s all the way to now, my 40s, and still going.

If like most people I had felt satisfied with my physical practice, I probably would have been happier. But for some reason, I always felt something was missing — like there was a void that my practice couldn't fill from the inside. For a long time, I wasn't quite sure what that was. But my practice sparked my curiosity, and that curiosity began my ongoing inquiry. It took me on a search that led me to many sacred sites — from Japan to Tibet, Italy and Peru — I found myself always asking, listening, and learning, and at time, still questioning. Unlike most things I read or was promised along the way, my path rarely gave clear whole picture. It offered little clues — crumbs, pieces of information or personal opinion — that at times left me frustrated, but even being misled taught me something.

My personal journey started as a student in 2008. Naturally, as I grew, I felt called to share what I was learning — and so I became a certified yoga and meditation teacher in 2014. Opening Yoga In DeMun brought me into rich conversations with people from many different life experiences, cultures and beliefs. Working with people one-on-one gave me great insight, but it also gave me a new longing — to offer something deeper, something that could meet each person in their own inner work. That longing led me to becoming a certified coach in 2025. And somewhere along that long, winding road, I finally met my inner guide — the one that had been within me the entire time after the shift in my being.

No matter where you are in your life right now — even if you don't understand why yet — if deep down you feel the call for clarity and guidance, I hope you know you have landed in a safe place. A place where questions are welcome. A place where you can start from exactly where you are.
